Pro: "This review is for return travel from ATL to MAA (Chennai, India) and back. Route: ATL-DOH: about 14.5 hrs; DOH-MAA: about 4.5 hrs; Likes: 1. Baggage check-in process was simple and easy. 2. Meal preferences was good - I'm a vegetarian and on the onward journey forgot to specify the meal preference but the crew had enough inventory to meat the requirements. 3. Every seat was provided with a small plastic pouch/packet/goodie bag that consisted of a eye mask (very thoughtful), pair of sock, toothpaste+brush (very thoughtful), hand cream. This was very useful and effective. 4. Entertainment - options were good and current."
Contra: "Dislikes: 1. Online check-in wasnt easy; towards the end of the process, there is an option to email the boarding pass but this never worked. Not sure if this is something to do with the browser (tried with Firefox, Opera) 2. It would have been good, as part of the online check-in, if the users reminded to specify the meal preferences, etc. I forgot to specify the meal preferences but thankfully the crew had enough of what I wanted. 3. Take a relook at the packaging of the toothpaste tube in the goodie bag. It was sealed in such a way that it was difficult to open it w/o a sharp object. This should have been easier. 4. Seats were the worst part - poor legroom. Worst, the seat cushion is the worst. I think it was just a fabric over a metal seat with minimalist of cushion. ATL to DOH leg was the worst (and the longest leg of the trip). Unless you have open seats next to you it would be a back breaking and painful trip. Seat comfort wise, I would rate Qatar as the worst. Luckily on the return leg (DOH-ATL) next two seats to mine was empty, so was able to stretch and sleep well. DOH-MAA or MAA-DOH seating was little better (think its a older plane; newer planes have worst seats) 5. The website was damn slow while accessing from overseas. Even in the US, at times the website hangs-up, freezes or spins often. 6. Food was ok -dinner and lunch but minimalistic; I didnt see any specific breakfast menu or any coffee served separately (was part of beverage option during lunch or dinner) 7. There was no alert, communication, notification, reminder of upcoming trip via email or text, etc. Many airlines does this very often but Qatar was totally silent on it (they did have my email during checkin). Not sure why."

They booked me a short stay in a hotel at no extra charge. This included a car and driver to and from the hotel. It was a nice hotel close to the airport."

Contra: "I slashed my finger fairly painfully on a toilet door while pushing it from the outside to open it on the Dubai to Cape Town flight [again, an upgrade on my home flight which is a bucket list dream would more than make up for that!] which i pointed out to a flight attendant and they took note of it and bandaged me up so it was dealt with well but hopefully that gets sorted out [she said she would write a report] cos it did unfortunately affect the rest of my flight a little... And so many crying babies [thankful for volume control on headphones] but literally that was it - love flying Emirates cos on the whole felt super well treated..."

For a flight in which 60-70% of passengers are Indians, some extra vegetarian meals should be available (for those who do not know how to book it in advance)."

Contra: "Checkin associate at SFO was rude and told me that only light baggage is allowed in the plane during borading noticed several passengers with larger bags and sometime two bas as well. I was told I can only take one bag. This caused me to change my plans on what I can carry on my two small bags. This is also the reason why had to take a small handbag to keep everything I needed. I lost this bag at New Delhi airport. Had I been allowed the the standard tote and a laptop bag I may not have needed the extra hand bag and may not have lost my items. Emirates associate is partailly responsible for my lost items."
Pro: "We started with a 45 min wait on the tarmac before takeoff. Then spent 14h listening to screaming children. Now, I know that isn't the airlines fault, but it would be nice to see where children are sitting when booking on such a long flight! Once we landed, the girl next to me got sick and when I flagged a flight attendant, she simply told me there's a barf bag in the seat pocket - there wasn't - so I had to part the crowd to get that lady to a bathroom. Then it took 45 min to get off the plane! The food was okay and there was plenty to watch (couldn't read due to screaming children). It was a really rough flight."
Pro: "The vegan meals were very good and tasty. I enjoyed the entertainment provided and the plane was very clean. At times the plane was very cold, however the blanket helped with that. It wasn't this flight but the flight from Tanzania to Dubai, the crew sprayed the plane and I would like to know what was sprayed as it was awful and what if any chemicals were sprayed on us. Perhaps it would be better to spray the plane before the passengers board the plane."
Contra: "There was only one flight attendant would didn't assist my friend when we asked her to please take my friend's food tray away. My friend Emily Bayne was having a major discomforting eye allergy attack. Emily eyes were burning, dry, turning red, and very itchy and she wanted to go to the bath room to run warms water over her eyes, however she had the food tray and so we push the attendant help button. But when the flight attendant came to see what we needed and we asked if she could please take Emily's food tray, she just said I will come back later for that. So I told Emily just go to the bathroom I will hold your food tray. Emily Bayne was seated in the middle and I had the aisle seat, 44H. While Emily was in the bathroom I complained to another flight attendant what had happened, she took our food trays and then told her supervisor what happened. The supervisor came shortly and assisted Emily by granting her request and providing her with two warm wet towels, and later 5 more. The supervisor and the other attendant that I complained to continue to check throughout the fljght to see if Emily needed anything else, which was nice and accommodating. The flight after that incident was good, as the supervisor immediately corrected the insensitive act of his flight attendant."

The plane was smelly until we were about to take off. The first meal on our way back from Istanbul was awful. The omelette was greasy, overly cheesy and bland. Same goes for the spinach pastry in the same tray. On the flights to Cairo, there was not enough drinks served. I only had one beverage offered to me. I was bypassed when they were serving the coffee/ tea. Also, the timeliness with serving drink was bad... I waited about 4 hours before getting my first beverage on the flight home."

That view of the northern sea and ice cap is Phenomenal and not to be missed if at all possible!! Pro: "The entertainment and refreshments on the flight was satisfactory."
Contra: "The sanitation on the flight was disgusting. Trash everhwre, tray tables with stains on them from the previous passengers, stains on the seat cushions, dirty blankets that had stains on them, the bathrooms were foul smelling with fluids on the floors. I am never EVER FLYING TURKISH AIRLINES AGAIN."
Pro: "The best airline to Europe! Period! Boing in the new 777 and has very comfortable seats with plenty of room for your feet even in economy class. Huge number of movies and TV shows. The food is excellent. Only missing part is to have some candies or chocolates for the 13 hour trip for San Francisco to Istanbul. You can not beat their price. Crew is very friendly and helpful at the same time. Slippers and socks they give you in economy class + cotton blanket of course make you feel you are 1st class traveler. What else? You name it and it is there. Will fly again with Turkish airlines."
Pro: "Fantastic onboard entertainment. Lots of current movies and tv shows to watch. Music was available, too. Even a camera under the plane to see what you’re flying over...usually clouds. USB charging, big screens in the headrests, games, remote control with keyboard and game controller, network cable for laptops without Wi-Fi even. The had pillows and blankets on every seat when we arrived and handed out hot towels before the first meal. They also provided a kit with eye mask, toothbrush, cologne, and slippers. Far better than we expected."
Contra: "We were subjected to at least five security checks after our transfer in Istanbul. At the gate they checked our passports and boarding passes five times before boarding, every carry on bag was searched and every person was patted down. We even watched while one man held up his baby for a guard to pat the baby down! This was all after the security we’d received to get to our gate. So, if you left the gate to use the bathroom, you had to go through all the checks again."
Pro: "Food—though not much of it! If you’re asleep, good luck getting any food afterward. They were out of breakfasts after I awoke. Didn’t they count the reservations?"
Contra: "Restrooms dirty, cabin dirty—no owriodic seeeps, staff that makes no effort to interact. They appear frantic and overworked. sure hope the pilots are more engaged than everyone w Turkish Air"
Pro: "Service was very good, an excellent selection of entertainment to stay distracted during the 13 hour flight, and a reasonable rate for the flight."
Contra: "The Istanbul airport is very large and there are many people. The signage is generally pretty good, but it was confusing getting off the airplane from Berlin and seeing a sign saying something like " foreigners." I waited in that very long line for at least 30 minutes which ate up most of my layover time. Only to find out that it was for people with visas coming into Turley. I was directed to another, poorly marked, line for people transferring planes."
Contra: "Inability to get a full can of soda and beverages with ice, Wild kids who ran amuck in the cabins, insonsistent ventilation it was hot one minte freezing the next."
Pro: "Not much"
Contra: "The crew wasn't very warm or welcoming. No one smiled even once. They made it feel as if they were just doing their job and didn't care about customer service or comfort. The wifi didn't work the entire trip. Also, I got rammed with a service cart because the flight attendant said he didn't see me."
Pro: "Delicious food, amenities kit with socks, slippers, earplugs, toothpaste and more, fantastic entertainment system, power plugs and USB plugs at every seat."
Contra: "The laptop on board ban is a mess. As we were flying to the US, we had to go through literally 4 security checks one after the other. Then, all of our electronics (laptop, camera, even headphones) other than our phones had to be taken. As everyone had to go through it , this delayed our flight by 1 hour. When we landed, we waited literally 1.5h before they started handing out our electronics. All in all, it took me 4 hours to leave the airport."
Pro: "The crew on the plane was kind, accommodating, and polite. Free alcoholic drinks helped with the long list of negatives aspects of the flight."
Contra: "Every flight was 30+ minutes late. Crew members at the gate were consistently on their phones and delayed service substantially. Not only am I incredibly frustrated that I could not bring my laptop onboard to do work, but the fact I wasn't told until right at boarding and it took extensive time to reclaim it makes Turkish airlines on par with Ryan Air for inconveniencing its customers. At baggage claim, the crew loaded our baggage on the incorrect track, making it take even longer to receive it. Seats and leg room are sub par. As someone who is 6'3, when the person in front of me put their seat back, I was forced to take a metal bar on the back of their seat to my knees (no matter the position). I will be recommending to both family and friends that they should avoid this airline at all costs."
Pro: "We had a 13hr flight and it was a very stress free and relax experience!"
Contra: "my USB charger didn't work in both 13hr flights"

Pro: "As with the departure, everything was smooth for those who had no carry-on laptop"
Contra: "The new carry-on laptop caused a delay of about 1 hr before departure and arrival an hour late, then claiming the laptop was almost a nightmare with long queue after picking up the luggages, one has to also claim their laptops in a make shift station In the baggage claims area. My suggestion is to put the computer laptops in alphabetic order by last name/surname, with the claim ticket,for easier access when picking up. As for departure, probably at check in to inform them that if you have a laptop carry-on so that can be taken care of right away as not to delay departure when they take it at the departing gate. This should be done at check in if in Turkey, or as a transferring traveler, to inform the traveler to take care of that as soon as arrived to transferring destination and for the traveler not to wait until boarding time at the boarding gate."
Pro: "Good food and courteous service."
Contra: "I was crowded in amongst a family who decided to camp in my row of 3 seats. (Literally, on the floor.) I could not move because I needed the bulkhead and aisle seat to stretch my legs. I am a Diabetic and needed it for circulation. I did not say anything but, the stewardess should have made one of the people go back to their seat as he was wedged near the window and sitting on the floor. It made my 13.25 hours trip very uncomfortable. They had a child with them so, I didn't wish to complain while on board."
Pro: "The flight itself was great and the crew was wonderful"
Contra: "Due to the laptop ban, the boarding and un-boarding process was brutal. We had to stand in line for an hour and a half just to hand over our laptops, where for some reason they decided to have only 2 people handling the process which created a huge line. The flight was 1:30 late and as we landed, there was no method to the delivery of the laptops to people. I had to wait almost 2 hours to get my laptop. Again, they only had 2-3 people handling the distribution of the laptops. I understand the security issue, but this issue was known for weeks now and there is no reason not to have enough people on the ground to take care of the boarding and distribution of electronic devices to at least make this an easier experience. There is no excuse for such poor preparation and service."
Pro: "I got extremely sick on the flight from Istanbul to San Francisco. I now know I caught a stomach bug which hit me on the flights from Cape Town to Istanbul and then even worse from Istanbul to San Francisco. The flight from Istanbul was delayed by two hours due to customs delay for a passenger, as such there was a lot of recycled air. Take that and fact I'm pregnant and by time i started the 13 hour journey already felt sick. I started throwing up immediately and got sick 12 more times. the flight attendants brought me crackers, water and a cold towel and ice. My husband asked if he could pay to put me in business class but was not in airline policy. but i think given how sick and pregnant i was the flight attendant went to ask the captain if there was anything they could do to assist. they ended up moving me to business class to lie down and let me stay there for 3 hours. I got sick upon moving back but getting that rest really helped me. I felt like they genuinely cared about me and am so thankful to the two flight attendants who assisted: 1) Zumrat Bolukbas 2) Hatice (Cabin Chief) These women are amazing!"
Contra: "the 2 hour flight delay on tarmac."
Pro: "Flights attendants were really nice, USB ports on all seats, great selection of free movies and other entertainment, very good vegetarian food."
Contra: "Boarding took a long time in Istanbul and could have been handled better. A second inspection was setup At the gate to checks passports, inspect carry-on bags for laptops and iPads, and a pat-down. we were late taking off, the plane was really full, and the cushions on the seats were off a bit. Seems like the plane was cleaned quickly and not put back together carefully."
Pro: "Good entertainment system and overall crew"
Contra: "The flight was over booked and got delayed due to issues around seating. The team on the ground in the additional security check knew no English and it was ceothic."
Pro: "This was my first flight with Turskis Airlines and my best experience with flying to Europe. The food was excellent; we had two hot delicious meals (best airplane food I ever had). The crew was the best - professional yet friendly. TA airfares are cheaper than other airlines so I could spend one day in Istanbul. That alone is worth it!"

Contra: "The screen worked slowly. The food was minimal and poor quality. The lettuce was browning so I didn't have much salad on the main dinner. Sad that there was no fresh fruit at any time."

Contra: "I had FOUR TKA flights in my travels to and from Madagascar last month. Nearly EVERY seat I tried did NOT recline, nor could crew fix any! Most unpleasant to sit for 13 hrs. behind large man whose seat did reclione and mine could not. 2 yrs. ago I flew to Niger on TKA and I found the food better back then. Please keep the delicious Turkish food I fear a down grading for economical reasons. Don't do it."

Contra: "Stuck in Istanbul airport for three days because of snow. The way the airline handled it was APPALLING. Second night stood in line for a hotel for over four hours only to find out at 3am that there weren't any more. And none of that captures the insanity of being sent to a transfer desk with no way out except buying a Turkish visa and going through immigration. Inexcusable. I have traveled to over 40 countries in the past 30+ years and this was beyond the pale, absolutely a nightmare, and almost all of it (excepting the actual snow delay) in the airline's control. NEVER FLY THIS AIRLINE THROUGH ISTANBUL."
Pro: "Took Turkish Airline from New Delhi to San Francisco. The flight is at 6:55am from New Delhi, so a little early start - but the connection in Istanbul is excellently timed. The aircrafts were 777-300ER on both legs, and rather new. The entertainment is great and the TV screens are 11inches. Could not complain at all. Food is fine, standard fare, and there are some snacks available through entire flight. Istanbul is a reasonable airport for a short connection. Turkish allows 2 bags of 50lbs free - yet another reason to take it along with the reasonable fares."
Contra: "The luggage delivery at SFO took forever! The flight landed at 4:36pm and I got my luggage at 5:40pm. This is something I have noticed on Turkish Airlines multiple times. They really need to work on their luggage workflow."
Pro: "The whole experience was great. After an excellent meal which included drinks before and an excellent wine selection the flt attendants came through and made up a bed for you. This included a cover for the seat, a blanket and a big pillow. As opposed to United where you have to stick your feet in a little cubby the Turkish plane has just an open bench which opens to provide storage and gives ample foot room. I have never slept so much on a flt. Also he bathrooms are much more spacious than others."

Pro: "The space between the seats in Business Class is phenomenal - most space i can recall in Business Class. The lay flat feature of the seat is also great."
Contra: "They put some spice, don't know which one, in almost all the meat dishes and unfortunately I don't like the spice. The mushroom, potato omelette was an egg omelette laying on top of canned mushrooms and a potato cake laying on the side. This is not a potato, mushroom omelette by American standards. The amounts of food are phenomenal and I couldn't eat all they offered."
Pro: "There was upgrade special on our outbound flight at check in which we took advantage of so we were in business class flight from SFO to Istanbul. That was awesome experience - very comfortable fully reclining seats, gourmet food and drinks, impeccable service, wide entertainment selection, etc. Even on the shorter leg flights we took (i.e. Istanbul to Rome and Dubrovnik to Istanbul) they served food (light snack). We flew economy from Istanbul back to SFO but got exit row seats so plenty of leg room and seats reclined good amount. Again, great service, food and entertainment. All the flights we had on our itinerary were newer planes. Turkish Airlines is so much better than American airlines!"

Contra: "We did not plan to check in any luggage since we had few connections, so we decide to take our rimowa luggage with us. So we were forced to check them in because it was only 8kg allow per passenger on carry on. So our luggage end up full of big dents, and scratches. We reported to the airlines and it was hard to justify what we were complaining about it. As a consumer were are very unsatisfied and unhappy. One of the worst experience in hospitality I have ever experience."
"I had to cancel my trip because of COVID delta. My brother who I visiting got scared and didn’t want me to visit. I paid for insurance that you provided through your site. Allianz hidden in terms that canceling because of COVID fear isn’t covered. I was never offered insurance through delta on your site witch I would have bought. Contra: "The crew in Cluj airport could not care less about getting the plane boarded and departed on time. For 20 minutes crew stood around in the airport talking to each other and using their cellphones. Finally the transport bus was loaded only to have the bus driver get out, and talk to another employee while simultaneously using his phone. No information was given for the delay and the plane was boarded at time of departure. This careless and unbothered attitude resulted in a missed connecting flight for my partner and I. We were completely unassisted by crew on the plane and ended up having to wait 24hours for our next flight home. Absolutely disgusted by the service provided from Cluj to Munich. I would seriously consider another airline before booking again with Lufthansa for this route."
Contra: "There is definetely not much space for passengers in economy' especially for such long flights and when the seat in front of you is inclined. Not pleasant to eat nor to watch movies. I had to slid in and out my seat whenever I wanted to go to the bathroom."

Contra: "The checkin and "Automated" Baggage Check were a disaster. It took us a full 2 hours to check our bags and get to thru security and our gate. We were practically running to get to the end. The layout of the airport is very tough to get from point A to point B. Walking a long distance with multiple security checks. On top of that, the plane was almost an hour late boarding and then taking off. It was a mass of people with no way to cue for an orderly boarding process. No instructions or info given to allow us to go get something to eat or drink prior to boarding."
Pro: "I had to pay a premium more to sit with my family to sit together in cheap seats."
Contra: "I did not like the treatment of being a star alliance gold member then getting gouged even more for sitting together with my family in their cheap seats. My bags were marked with a priority tag, which meant nothing other than my bags being the very last off of the turnstile in San Francisco. One other passage stated that Luftansa does not care abut this aspect of customer service, which is obvious."
Contra: "First time took Lufthansa airlines and it was my one of the worst experience. Hospitality is respected when customer is helped when they are in trouble not when they is happily boarded. I have to travel from Milan to San Francisco and I missed flight of my one leg ( milan to frankfurt) of journeyand I went for help and non of the Lufthansa staff at Milan airport helped me. Although my connecting flight was after 12hr they just gave me some random number which to call. I have never experience this in my 8yr of international travel."
Contra: "Requested for Hindu vegetarian meal by call and was informed we would receive on flight. Got on flight to find that Hindu vegetarian does not exist. Starved on both legs of flight. That is almost 24 hours. Plane should keep extras and customer service should give correct information."
Contra: "My flight schedule changed after I bought the ticket, which resulted in paying for the hotel for the extra night and using one more PTO day."
Pro: "Lufthansa arranged for pickup with a van upon disembarking from my late flight from Pisa and took me through a special passport and security checkpoint so that I was able to catch my MUC-SFO flight. Flight departed late, but pilot made up all tge lost time in flight. Crew was professional, very polite and efficient."

Contra: "I was hungry in this flight. I felt the choice of food was small and have never been on a 10 hr+ flight and felt hungry. I'm glad I brought my own snacks with me."

Contra: "The entire Economy and Economy + had to walk to a section in the middle to use few toilets, instead of having the restrooms spread out. This resulted in a long line and awkward waits facing 10 more people in a very small space. The blanket was not washed well, had long blond hair on it. The temperature was very cold."
Pro: "The food was pretty good. Normally I can't eat airplane food but it was actually good."

Pro: "Lufthansa service is always incredible. Food is better than most other carriers and so is entertainment. Had a delay due to incoming flights, but staff made sure we had plenty of water and snacks while on the tarmac."
Pro: "we arrived early. the headrests are well-designed- all headrests on all flights should be like this."
Contra: "when we first boarded and went to use the restroom before the flight departed, the floor was sticky and smelled strongly of urine. had they even cleaned it on the turnaround? doubtul. several other toilets also smelled like urine early in the flght. the touch-screen on the entertainment interface is not very user friendly and was kind of frustrating."
Pro: "the gate crew didn't care if there was chaos. no interaction with waiting passengers beyond those that queued up with direct questions. i'd liken the experience to herding cattle. customer service skills haven't been taught to these folks yet. if i were basing my lufthansa experience on this alone, i'd go out of my way to fly another airline next time. on the other hand, the people staffing the flight were extremely kind, professional, pleasant, personable. a much improved experience. so much so that i mentioned it to a few people once i got home. this crew has received more training on how to provide excellent service than the gate folks in frankfurt."

Pro: "The entertainment options were great, and the food was better than many airline meals I've had before."
Contra: "I am Star Alliance Gold and I didn't like that it wasn't possible to select an economy plus seat upon check in, and I wasn't upgraded even though there were seats available. I picked this airline specifically because of it's star alliance membership but it didn't get my anything."
Pro: "The very gracious crew kept coming by with drinks and snacks, as well as lunch and dinner (in coach).The entertainment system is top notch, with a few dozen movies, lots of TV shows and more, with screens for each seat. The only complaint is that there's not much space between seats, so that when the person in front of you leans back, things can get tight. On the plus side, the bathrooms are downstairs (down a short staircase) and there's plenty of waiting room, so you don't get the usual congestion. Overall, a wonderful experience for an intercontinental flight."
Pro: "there was ice cream for dessert at night"
Contra: "- Delay > 2 hours and no info at gate at the time of planned boarding - unfriendly ground staff and chaotic check in - old 747, "entertainment 1970s standard - crew looked unkempt (like just out of bed), unfriendly to downright rude, my 85 year old mum was ignored repeatedly and ended up not getting enough fluids as a result - 1/8 crew members managed a smile on occasion - rushed meal "service", all they wanted was to disappear to sleep - crammed spaces - while it was announced "we have three different meal choices, you will have at least two choices" - ummm, no, it was pasta. Period. To be fair the pasta turned out ok. The morning dry ham and cheese bun was not, especially without any drink."
Pro: "Boarding process was efficient. Staff on the plane were very courteous."
Contra: "Your Economy seats are TOO SMALL! I'm 6-foot-4. It was physically PAINFUL to sit in the seats. My legs kept falling asleep and cramping up because I literally can't fit in your seats. Stop trying to squeeze every bloody dime you can out of a plane and add some more space in the seats. Passengers paying over a $1500 for 12-hour flights deserve to be treated better! That was horrible and bordering abusive!"
Pro: "I always enjoy the efficiency of the crew members. The services are great. They even give a wet towel to clean the hands before meal service. Movie selection is descent. Not too many newly released movies though."
Contra: "The flight was delayed by more than 1 hour due to computer problem. The leg room was smaller than other airlines I fly with in economy class. It made the second half the trip less comfortable."
Pro: "The staff on my flight were the most friendly crew I have ever had on a flight. They were enjoyable to interact with and went out of their way to help guests. I also appreciate that they wake you up if you are asleep while meals are being passed out; I have missed meals on planes before which is not a great experience on a 12 hour flight."
Contra: "The only negative aspect about the flight were that the seats were a little uncomfortable. There weren't any foot pedals to lift your legs and the seats were extremely close together which was uncomfortable on such a long flight."
Pro: "I liked how organized the crews are. The flight attendants are driven by efficiency. Things were done quickly like serving drinks and water. Appreciated having the hand towel to wipe the hands before serving the meals."
Contra: "I fly economy class with United and Lufthansa when I travel from the US to Asia or Europe. Lufthansa seats feel narrower. I am only 1.62 meters in height. I felt there was not enough room for a 12+ hour flight (delayed by one hour). The small leg room began to take a toll after 6 hours of flight."
Pro: "Chairs were uncomfortable, mainly due to the front passenger was always in reclined mode, and the passenger behind me wouldn't let me recline... He would literally push my chair up, but that's probably because his chair can not recline!"
Contra: "We needed to place special request on vegetarian meal, couldn't do it at booking or at checkin, was told to let crew know, they said it's too late. They brought us an "unclaimed" vegetarian meal, but it wasn't, it was Asian halal meal with lamb! After I let crew member know wmy husband was served meat instead, she denied it and said "its not possible" as the wrapper says "vegetarian". I informed her it actually said "Asian halal", she the proceeded to say, well, "i am sorry if it's wrong, but I gave you vegetarian". That said crew member collected my husband's plates while I was in the bathroom and came back later with a "vegan" plate that they now have available."
Pro: "The seats were comfortable (economy), headrest excellent. Crew especially hospitable. Good food. It was nice to be offered drinks and food without extra charge, including alcoholic drinks ( even though we did not drink on the flight). I appreciate that Lufthansa does not charge for checked bag, food etc and hope to fly again on Lufthansa."
Contra: "Having to pay for seat reservation ahead of the flight. I did not understand how seat selection would work and wanted to be sure my husband and I were seated together. I think I paid extra fees unnecessarily. It would be helpful to have better information."
Contra: "Boarding was delayed by 30 minutes but they did not inform us of the delay so everyone stood in line the entire time."
Pro: "Initially things were smooth. Boarding was on time."
Contra: "But then they deboarded the plane and everything went south fast. They didn't tell us what was happening or where to go or what to do. Instead we were directed to different service centers. We were told conflicting things. Sometimes they told us to exit the airport through passport control, but without any information on what to do next. They reopened the terminal but then redirected us to a service center. That center was overloaded and we ended up waiting in line for service/information for the entire day. Once I was near the service center they dissipated the line. They told us there was another service center in a different part of the airport and that this one we have waited for was closing. We went there and it was also closed instead they had beds without blankets or pillows limit the halls. Alia we were in line for hours before they offered any water or food. Food was really late. Information was the problem here. We were not told what we should do except to check with the service center. Eventually a few of us tried to get through passport control and check the service center out front. This worked much better. I was able to get a hotel and a standby ticket. That flight went much better but getting that far was a mess."
Contra: "This long haul flight was on an Airbus plane with five restrooms in the basement. There was not enough space to accommodate people waiting in the basement so people had to stand on stairs or by the galley. Flight attendants kept on telling people not to do so but there was simply not enough space."
Pro: "I used to fly lufthansa for my europe travel for work about 15 years ago a lot and thought in recent years it may not have been as good but these flights made me appreciate Lufthansa anew. Crew extremely helpful and polite, always followed up to any requests. Instead of barking at us like United or American crew, they went out of their way to help my daughter get a makeshift icepack for some very painful bumps she got during our vacation. Crew also kept the bathrooms clean from time to time, which was a welcome relief for such a long flight. Desk staff/service desk also was helpful in directing us during the 5 hr layover to things at the airport itself that we could do. They also helped reprint the boarding pass and write down the baggage tags when security made me lose those by separating my wallet and boarding passes into mutliple bins."
Contra: "Phone service. When I tried to book my seats and meals, the lady kept getting things wrong, and ended up not getting me the seats I had specifically ended up asking for. So, when I arrived at the airport and printed my boarding cards, those were seats I did NOT want and all the service desks insisted that's what I asked for. No low carb meal option was surprising. Meal service sometimes felt like too close to each other else too far apart from snacks - didn't feel like we had enough time to digest and get some sleep, while at other times we were seeking out snacks.Overall good quality of food however."
Contra: "Big Screen at front of cabin when I am 2 rows behind kept me awake Boarding was a mess, not really enoughpreboarding space to hold everyone. Organizers were rude and signs were confusing."
Pro: "The food and the entertainment system was great. Easy to check in from home and I was able to change to a seat I liked better. The flight was on time."
Contra: "The airplane was rather old, the boarding and deboarding took forever."
Contra: "This was one of the most uncomfortable flights I've ever been on. The extra cushion attached to the chairs behind our heads made the chairs very uncomfortable pushing our heads too far forward. Not only was it difficult to sleep, it ended up giving me a terrible back and neck ache. The flight from Dubrovnik to Munich didn't have this extra cushion but the flight from Munich to San Francisco did. It's a terrible feature and should be removed. Lastly, the food on this flight was awful and it made me sick. I traveled in Croatia and Montenegro for 2 weeks and didn't get sick once but I got sick from the airline food on the way home, that's pretty disgusting."
Pro: "A delay on our first leg (from Marseille to Munich) meant we missed our flight connection to SFO. Ok, these things happen. Lufthansa customer service in Munich was excellent--courteous and informative. We did not have to negotiate for lodging and other amenities while we waited for the next day's flight. Lufthansa provided for us with grace, including hotel, dinner, breakfast and the shuttle to and from the airport. The accommodations were excellent and we adjusted to our new departure time in comfort."
Pro: "Lufthansa really knows how to run an airline, there was a one day strike the day before our departure for SFO, we thought for sure the airport would be a disaster, all through the strike we were updated on our flight status via email, when we arrived to the airport from Florence, we were in a brand new airport terminal, the flow was flawless the plane was on time and you would never know there was any disruption, unlike the US the airport is a mess for days, we would fly Lufthansa anytime."
Pro: "The UAL 747 was not a spring chicken anymore, looking a bit tired and faded, but the flight was uneventful and safe. The usual crying babies (WHY do parents feel the need to bring infants on board when the babies are unhappy and have no idea what's going on?!?) and customers with pneumonia (or maybe SARS or Ebola???) that you'll find on most full aircraft. I survived the earsplitting crying and the contagious coughs unscathed, so I'm satisfied with the flight."
Contra: "Crying babies, contagious respiratory diseases (standard for flights these days), aging aircraft."
Pro: "The crew were relaxed and nice."
Contra: "United Economy is very tight and uncomfortable. Flight was delayed and no one said why until I overheard a crew member say it was going to be 15 min for paperwork. Snacks were scant. Boarding was chaotic, but it was a pretty packed flight. Not enough seats in the board in area for a plane that big. Screen for movies was far away or small and not individualized like most planes."
Pro: "Crew was friendly and helpful. Food was sufficient. Enjoyed keeping track of our journey via the on flight information via the entertainment equipment. Comfy ear sets to watch movies and listen to music. Music choices were decent."
Contra: "Food was okay, not great."
Pro: "Nice stewards. They brought lots of water, which is very important."
Contra: "The flight was delayed almost an hour, but they made up for the time in the air."
Pro: "United needs to update their aircraft equipment. No in seat entertainment for their long haul flights? Shame on them. They also need to take notes from the crews of Lufthansa. This crew was frantic and seemed unprepared during all of their cocktail and meal services."
Pro: "This was a Lufhansa operated by United flight. Plane was clean. Bathrooms were well-stocked with paper products, which can sometimes be a problem on a long-distance flight. Seat in Economy Plus was OK for comfort, but I resent having to pay more than $100 for it. Plane left on time. Ground crew was very nice and helpful and friendly."
Contra: "This was a Lufhansa operated by United flight. My audio key pad stopped working and I could not hear the movie audio after the first movie. It was stuck on one music channel, which had a short playlist. The light stopped working as well. I could not use the personal device entertainment system because the United system doesn't work with my Silk browser on my Kindle. My biggest complaint, however, was the boarding process. Every three minutes a flight crew member would announce, "Please move into the seat area and don't block the aisle, we have a lot of people to board" in a very exasperated voice. I felt assaulted. I didn't see any United crew members helping people with their luggage or trying to find additional luggage space for customers as I have on British Air, Swiss, and Lufthansa flights. I get that luggage is heavy and people can sometimes be uncooperative and flight attendants may not have signed up to be baggage haulers, but could you please HIRE someone strong to help with loading luggage on international flights? I don't like being treated as someone who is standing in the way of a smooth boarding process."
Pro: "This was a very new plane and had extra leg room even in coach."
Pro: "I was very sick through the flight and they took such good care of me. I appreciate their care and help from the bottom of my heart."
